About Thamal Udamulla

Thamal began his table tennis career over 30 years ago in Sri Lanka under the coaching of Mr Mahinda Ellepola who later became the National Table Tennis Coach of Sri Lanka. After many years of practice and dedication, Thamal became the Top Ranked #1 Sri Lankan Junior and won the Sri Lankan Junior National Title in 1984. An outstanding achievement!

At senior level, Thamal focussed more on his qualifications at University and his work career. He continued to play table tennis during this period but no longer had the time to remain at a high competitive level.

After a lengthy break from the game, Thamal reignited his passion for table tennis captaining Digswell in the SHAW and North Herts Leagues at Premier Division Level with a 60% win rate. Thamal qualified as a Level 2 UKCC2 table tennis coach in 2013 and has participated in Herts Junior County coaching sessions and Eastern Region development training sessions in many training centres in and around Hertfordshire, Essex and Cambridgeshire. As a volunteer Thamal had gained a wealth of experience observing the best coaches in the field. He has already tasted coaching success with his daughter becoming Hertfordshire Girls Under 11 champion this year and wishes to give similar opportunities to many other Juniors.

Thamal is the driving force behind Spins Table Tennis Coaching Academy which has been several years in the making. Together with his equally passionate and dedicated coaching team, he believes that Spins TT Coaching Academy is just the first step to creating a successful and sustainable table tennis coaching presence in Welwyn Garden City.
